Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill opens up about his battle against stage three blood cancer: ‘Just pleased to be alive’

Jurassic Park fame Sam Neill left his fans shocked as he opened up about his battle against stage-three blood cancer in his memoir. The opening line of his memoir ‘Did I Ever Tell You This? reads “The thing is, I’m crook. Possibly dying. I may have to speed this up.” In an interview with The Guardian, the actor revealed that he started writing the memoir only because he wanted to keep himself busy while undergoing cancer treatment.The 75-year-old actor was diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma in March 2022 while he was promoting Jurassic World Dominion, the conclusion of the Jurassic World series. The Guardian reported that Neill underwent chemotherapy which didn’t help him, and later he switched to a “new chemotherapy drug which he will continue to receive monthly for the rest of his life”. The actor is now cancer free.Talking about last year, when he was being treated for cancer, Neill, who played the lead role of Dr Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, shared, “I can’t pretend that the last year hasn’t had its dark moments. But those dark moments throw the light into sharp relief, and have made me grateful for every day and immensely grateful for all my friends. Just pleased to be alive.”  A post shared by SamNeillTheProp (@samneilltheprop)He also said that he “never had any intention to write a book” but as he began writing it, he found a reason to live as he would be excited to write about his various experiences in life. The actor said, “It was a lifesaver really, because I couldn’t have gone through that with nothing to do.”Sam Neill began his acting career in 1979 and after spending over five decades in the film industry, he has delivered several memorable performances, including the ones in The Piano, Jurassic Park and Peaky Blinders, among many others.
