MUMBAI: MNS chief Raj Thackeray targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks against Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodkar Savarkar at a rally on Sunday, saying, "Do you even have the stature to speak about Savarkar?" You don't even realise that Savarkar's mercy petition was a strategy he was using to get out of jail to launch an attack on the British." He also mocked Gandhi's voice and said he sounded like music composer RD Burman. Speaking at a rally at the NESCO grounds in Goregaon against the backdrop of the BMC polls which could be held in a few months, Thackeray sought to re-ignite the MNS campaign against loudspeakers used outside mosques in the city. "If the loudspeakers are too loud, first the partymen should complain to the police. If they do nothing, then the Hanuman Chalisa should be played loudly outside the police station." Targeting his cousin and former CM Uddhav Thackeray, he said, "Initially he used his health as an excuse. Then after Eknath Shinde's rebellion, he started traveling all over. He wants power for selfish reasons and to make money." Thackeray also criticised Maharashtra Governor B S Koshyari who is in the news for his controversial remarks against Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji. "Look at his age and what he says. He is the Governor, so I am not saying anything but there is no lack of abuses in Maharashtra," he said. He referred to Koshyari's recent comment in which he had said that if Gujaratis and Rajasthanis are removed from Mumbai, it would cease to be the country's financial capital. "Why don't you ask Gujaratis and Marwaris why they don't do successful businesses in their own state?" he asked.
