Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank’s former director Daljeet Singh Bal granted bail

MUMBAI: A special court granted bail to a 72-year-old former director of Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank who was arrested in February while allegedly trying to cross the India-Nepal border. The former director, Daljeet Singh Bal, was the 20th accused person to be held in the Rs 4,435 crore Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank scam case. “None of witnesses stated that this applicant had sponsored the loan application of proposal of Tejindersingh or asked anybody to favour him in any manner. No specific role is attributed to him except that he was not diligent in discharge of duties as director,” the court said. ‘The court noted that other accused in the case were also granted bail.

Ltd for the installation of over 60 electric vehicle (EV) charging points all over JP Infra’s projects in Mumbai. Backed by the Maharashtra government, the initiative will enable end-to-end EV charging solutions.Providing a 24×7 charging provision, residents owning an EV will be able to monitor remote vehicle charging as well as have access to e-payment options via services laid out on the ‘Tata Power EZ Charge’ mobile app.A Tata Power’s spokesperson said, “We are spearheading the EV charging revolution in the country and making sustainable mobility attainable for lakhs of EV owners. We are scaling up our EV charging infrastructure in the state to contribute to the Maharashtra Govt’s aim of a rapid transition to green mobility. The collaboration with JP infra will provide a seamless charging experience to its residents and accelerate the adoption of EV vehicles.”Tata Power had previously tied-up with the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) of Maharashtra to install up to 5,000 EV charging stations in the state.

MUMBAI: An elderly realtor was duped of Rs 2.4 lakh by a cyberfraudster who led him to believe that the power supply in his plush south Mumbai apartment was going to get disconnected. Fraudulent transactions were made in three of his bank accounts, Colaba police said. An FIR has been registered. The 62-year-old complainant lives in Colaba. On August 8, he was at home when he received a text that the power supply would be disconnected at his residence at 9.30pm. The sender's phone number was mentioned in the text. When the complainant dialled the number, the man on the other end inquired the purpose of the call. The complainant explained that he did not want the power supply to get disconnected. At this, the man assured help and asked him to download an app called ‘Any Desk’ and make a payment of a mere Rs 10. The complainant was not aware that ‘Any Desk’ would provide the fraudster with remote access to his phone screen. “The complainant filled up details from three banks, including credit card numbers. Soon after, a sum of Rs 2.44 lakh was deducted in five installments,” said a police officer. The realtor realised he had been duped when he received text messages from his banks about the transactions. He disconnected the call and approached the police to lodge a complaint

MUMBAI: A special POCSO court recently convicted and sentenced a 35-year-old man to 5.7 years (time spent in prison as an undertrial) for attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl in his neighbourhood in 2016. The child was rescued by a man who had come to repair the building lift. Relying on the statements of witnesses, the court said, “Offence of attempt to commit rape, attempt to commit penetrative sexual assault and attempt to commit aggravated penetrative sexual assault has been proved.” Sentencing the accused to time spent in jail, the court said, “As per his submission he is only earning member in the family, he has an old aged mother and 10-year-old son. Considering that he is the only earning member and the seriousness of the offences, leniency is required to be shown,” the court said.
