THANE: The Thane Muncipal transport committee on Monday evening approved and awarded the tender for 123 electric operated buses on wet lease to a Hyderabad based company, officials informed. The addition of these 123 buses- a first in the electric powered segment for the Thane transport undertaking- will strengthen its existing fleet of nearly 350 diesel and CNG powered vehicles. As per the plans, the contractor will supply AC non-AC buses in the 9m and 12m long categories within and beyond the city limits. Two companies had responded to the TMT call for operating the 123 buses and as one of the contractor couldn't meet the technical requirements, the other was awarded the contract on Monday, an official informed.
